Mostly are photos that are taken by me to represent the baby of the family, my 3 1/2 month old nephew. I want the photos to represent what babies do and what are consisted in their daily lives. I will have at least 8 photos of my nephew, Jalen. Each will represent a different facial expression, occasion, and activity. The photos that will be considered to be in the collection are: 1) Welcoming Jalen to the world; the day he was born
2) Eating out of a bottle; decided not include a breasfed picture
3) Yawning photo when the baby is sleepy.
4) Halloween photo. He has a costume of a giraffe for Halloween.
5) Bathtime! There will be a photo of Jalen taking a bath while his daddy is holding him. You can see the size difference with the baby's body against my brother's hand.
6) Photo of Jalen sleeping.
7) Jalen's dirty diaper; and maybe a picture of him getting his diaper changed.
8-?) Will include other photos of the baby with different expressions on his face. I also want to include video clips of the baby talking.
I plan to reproduce the photo of dirty diaper by making wall of dirty diapers. Maybe even including one real one! haha! ;)

I think the dirty diaper idea is by far the most interesting one. It's difficult making art with traditional depictions of a baby because the immediate association is that of "cuteness." But with the diaper, it opens up a lot more potential in terms of thinking about the body, the traces it leaves behind, and representing the unpleasant.
ReplyDeleteThat is very true. Babies are really cute and adorable but they also come with the opposite which does not limit to their dirty diapers.
