Cat [kat] noun : 1 a feline mammal 2 the opposite of a dog 3 cute and cuddly, sometimes mean and bitey

My project is about obsessively collecting cats. I was thinking about going around and taking pictures of strays like I'm picking them, but I'm not sure about that. For now I plan on making a bunch of cats.

1. A tin cat made out of a can and wire. He'll be spray painted black.
2. A cat made out of a soda can and wire. He'll be spray paint white.
3. A cat made out of paper mache. Maybe this kitty will be covered with wax to look like a hairless cat.
4. A cat made out of styrofoam. That cat will be painted in some color maybe spots like a bengal cat.
5. A cat made out of cardboard. That cat will be painted in black and white maybe.
6. A cat made out of of popsicle sticks and maybe tooth picks. That cat will be black probably.
7. A cat made out of an old magazine. The magazine will be cut into strips so that they look like long fur like a persian cat.
8. A cat made out of plastic bottles. Maybe I'll leave that one clear and stick kibble inside.
9. A cat made out of feathers. It'll have some sort of a base inside, but cats like feathers so feathers should be fun.
10. A cat scratcher/tower made out of cardboard. The cats will be placed near or on the cat scratcher/tower.

  1. I would be careful of approaching it simply as a arts and craft project of making something you like. The materials you decide to use and how you use them are going to be really important in creating the "meaning" of the work. Also, in order to create a sense of "obsession", you have to think about the presentation and the number you need to accomplish that effect. Look at artist like Yayoi Kusama.
