I'm planning on doing a Body Double that is about the indigenous body, the native body, the colonized body, the assimilated body, the body that is copied, the body that is territorialized, the body that is erased, the body that is elided, the body that is made foreign from itself, the body in place of itself. I'd like to make it as a series of dolls, preferably in wax or some form of substance that is similar to flesh but artificial, although I haven't worked in wax before, so whatever I can come up with, it will be something new for me, both the material and using the idea of duplication in my work, both duplication as form and as theme, by duplication I also mean reduplication.

Hi Daniel,
ReplyDeleteSounds exciting!
Have you ever thought about Robert Gober's work before.
Maybe you could also look up Louise Bourgeois...
Have fun,
Marcus
I like Louise Bourgeois alot, I saw her retrospective exhibition at MOCA recently, it was awesome. Robert Gober I didn't know but I'm looking at his work online now.
ReplyDeleteI'm planning now on changing the direction of my piece, I'm taking out the aspect of the dialectic, and making a "pure" self portrait: abstract, sculptural; utilizing furniture legs, wire, nylon.
