I just finished my homemade stereo and showed it to the class by playing some music for them. I built it using lots of cardboard, a couple Styrofoam plates, a magnet, some wire, paper, business cards, tape and some glue. I built the frame of the stereo with cardboard and tape, then went on to build the speakers with the other materials. The magnet and structure for the business cards are glued onto cardboard pieces and the the plates and coiled paper and wire are glued on the business cards. It's a pretty complicated procedure to explain, but it was a lot of fun to make. I then drew the design's on the stereo with a sharpie.
(I hope it works!)

Maybe some architectural model-making wood will help out here also. I am doing a demo with this material in class.
